Should You Timestamp Your Blog Posts?

Post by Accrete »

What do you think about date stamping your blog posts?
...Timestamping your blog posts (even with just the date) lets your readers know when it was written. It helps them decide how relevant the information is when they come across it. To them, a current or recent post may seem more attractive than one written years ago.

In most cases, including the publish date on your posts is a good thing, especially if you’re regularly creating new content. But what about evergreen content? If you decide to timestamp your blog posts here is the guidance from Google:
When Google can determine the publication and update dates of your page or video, it can expose this information in Search results, if this information is considered to be useful to the user.

Article search result showing a date

You can provide information to help Google determine the publication and last updated date.
Google doesn't depend on a single dating factor because all factors can be prone to issues. That's why our systems look at several factors to determine our best estimate of when a page was published or significantly updated.
