Anyone with scanning experience from negatives?

Any member or lurker with experience scanning negatives?

I am in the learning phase of scanning some old negatives and according to some online processors I am not getting a high enough resolution even though I am scanning at 600 DPI.

I a hunch it is related to target size.

I don't have any experience with scanning negatives, but it does sound like an interesting project. However, 600 dpi is really not a very high resolution, especially when we know how small negatives are, and if you want to print out the picture after scanning them and turning them in to normal colored pictures, you should probably use a much higher resolution, like 2400dpi or higher if you want some decent quality out of it

I was thinking along the same lines. I used 600 because I read that was optimal but that article might be referring to scanning photos. 600 makes for a really sharp monitor image of a decent size.

Gotta work today but may play with the scanner in full auto mode later in day and see what it does. Or maybe scan some 35mm negs and see what it does.

What I am currently trying to get right is some 60-65 year old 120 / 620 B&W negs.
