Olympus is giving up on camerasDespite denying persistent rumors that it would exit the camera business, Olympus is doing exactly that. The company has announced that will sell its camera business to Japan Industrial Partners (JIP), the same company that purchased Sony’s VAIO PC division (via The Verge). Olympus will now focus on its much larger business supplying industrial and medical imaging equipment....

Olympus is giving up on cameras
I have an old Olympus film camera and one of their small digital cameras. They use to be a good camera.

I fear it is a sign of the times. Phone cameras are a lot better than they were.
I actually don't recall the last time I took my DSLR for a spin.

My phone and tablet cameras are terrible!
Was looking forward to using my little Olympus as soon as I find the charging cord after the move...

Re: Olympus is giving up on cameras
I'm with Colbyt on this. My phone's camera is pretty darn good, and my son's phone camera, I think is the S20 plus Galaxy phone, has an amazing camera. In fact I think it's got 3 or 4 lenses - can't remember what he said. The quality and especially the zoom is really good - not pixilated when stretched too far.
I think stand-alone cameras are definitely on the way out for the average person (like me), who just wants to take a few pics for distribution and some for printing, but the nicer stand-alone cameras will still be around for the photo enthusiasts for quite some time.

Re: Olympus is giving up on cameras
Mine was. This Moto5 has an 8MP camera at high res and is as good as my Pentax at medium res jpg setting. Now it is true I can't change the lens and special stuff isn't an option but most users never do those things anyway.
It sure weights a lot less also,
